Kalamazoo College’s women’s tennis team hosted the 2015 ITA Central Regionals last week from October 2-5. The matches were hosted both at K’s courts at Stowe Stadium and at Western Michigan University’s courts.
The women Hornets put gave a strong performance throughout the tournament, led by senior Sarah Woods K’16. Woods won three matches in the main draw singles before losing in the semifinals. She was the three seed in the draw and ended up losing to the two seed, University of Chicago player Ariana Iranpour.
Woods also competed in the main draw doubles with partner Maria Franco. The pair were seeded fourth in the draw and played their way through the round of 16 before falling in the quarterfinals 8-6.
Sonal Bahl K’19 and Maya Srkalovic K’19 also competed for the Hornets and played their way out of the round of 64. The pair was eventually eliminated in the next round by Washington University 8-0. Katie Clark K’16 and Eloise Germic K’17 rounded out the lineup for the Hornets; they also competed in the main draw doubles. They were defeated in the round of 64 8-2 by DePauw.
The women’s tennis team is off until the January when they start their official season for the winter and spring.
