Women’s Basketball Falls to Calvin

(Nick Marsh / Index)

On Wednesday night women’s basketball took on nationally ranked Calvin at Anderson Athletic Center. Despite the hard fought effort, the Hornets came up short on points in the end.

“It wasn’t the outcome we wanted, but the girls played their butts off,” said K Coach Katie Miller. “We forced Calvin to make some big shots down the stretch and unfortunately they did.”

The final score was 73-60 in favor of the traveling Calvin Knights. However the wide margin of victory does not do justice to the effort put forth by the Hornets.

Despite being down early in the first half the ladies fought back to within three a couple minutes before halftime. Even so, the visitors went on a run in the last minute before halftime and took a 38-30 lead into the half. Calvin came out strong in the second half and caught the hosts off guard. They extended their lead to double digits and never relinquished that margin.

“For us to fight hard until the very end, I’m proud of the way we played,” says Coach Miller. The Hornets scored the last basket of the game with under a minute remaining showing effort to the end.

Sophomore guard Suzanne Miller picked up a neck injury during the first half and was assessed by the team doctor after the game.

The women’s next game is at home against Trine on January 24th. They will look to get back on track in conference play with a home win.
