Week in Review: April 8, 2015


Baseball

The Kalamazoo College baseball team turned out a dominating performance in their series against Alma College, taking three out of four games from the Scots between March 29 and April 2. The Hornets followed up with a split in their four game series with Albion College. Pitcher Ryan Orr was the bright spot for the Hornets, earning MIAA Player of the Week for the second time in his career. He remains undefeated on the season at 4-0.

Softball 

Kalamazoo College softball dropped tough series to both Alma College and Trine University this week. The series against the eighth ranked Trine Thunder yielded positive results despite the losses, including a home run by senior Abby Anderson in their heartbreaking 5-4 loss.

Men’s Tennis

The Men’s Tennis Team posted an impressive 3-1 record this week, defeating Augustana College, Alma College, and Albion College by wide margins. Sophomore Brandon Metzler continues to perform well at number one singles while first year Elan Dantus has stepped up to be a key contributor, winning the Hornets’ only flight against Wisconsin-Whitewater.

Women’s Tennis

The women’s tennis team posted similar results as the men as they won three out of their four contests this week, falling only to Wisconsin-Whitewater. Reigning MIAA MVP Sarah Woods has been on fire to start the season and won all four of her singles matchups this week.

Women’s Lacrosse

The Hornet women’s lacrosse team had an outstanding win over last year’s MIAA champion Adrian College. Sophomore Anika Sproull scored three goals and added two assists while fellow sophomore Nicole Huff scored four goals. First-year net minder Katie Johnson was named MIAA Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this year.
