Querubin Dubois, who is better known as Q by her friends, is a 2015 graduate from Kalamazoo College. While at K, she was an economics major and a two-sport athlete, basketball and softball. She is enjoying her post-grad life as a financial analyst at Eaton Corporation

Q: Can you talk about how you’ve spent your life since graduating from K?

A: Since K, I have just been transitioning into adulthood and all the responsibilities that

come with it. It’s not that bad, it’s just different.

Q: What do you do for work now, as a financial analyst at Eaton?

A: With the end of the year approaching, I am doing a lot of work with budgets right now to

prepare for 2016. There’s also a lot of accounting to it, like making journal entries.

Q: How did you get into this profession? And more particularly, how did you get this job?

A: Honestly, when I graduated from K, I still wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do

professionally. I had a few ideas, but I was pretty open-minded. I actually came across my current job through a suggestion from someone who happened to come across my LinkedIn page and knew about the position. He thought I might be a good candidate for the job, so I applied.

Q: How applicable has your K education been to your post-grad occupation?

Beyond just the classes, it’s the life skills that I developed while at K that are proving

to be just as invaluable. It’s the little things like the ability to manage time, to work in a team, to communicate effectively, and to think critically that are so important because these are skills that are being used daily. Another one is the importance of having confidence. It’s a hard one, but it does wonders.

Q: Do you know what’s next for the Q?

I’ll continue to work, but besides that I’m not entirely sure. I think that makes it all the

more exciting, really. There’s the opportunity to do so many things, it’s just a matter of finding a place to start. I was fairly active while at K, so for the time being, maybe a new hobby like rock climbing.
